HI

I am looking for quotes/interested people, to make a web clip of an animated character (our avatar) synchronised and dancing to a clip of music. Probably a 30 second film. Looking for a 4 week turnaround. Prs & Mcps license applications are in process at present.

Please PM or email me for details.

Kind regards
Sandra

Hi Sandra

Before you start paying mcps licenses for web clips - which could be expensive - and before you go to the trouble of commissioning a dancing animation, have you thought about how feasible it is?

I'm thinking that for your boxby avatar, to see it dancing, might suggest seeing it from different angles, and when you see it from different angles, boxby (side) becomes y (front) or ydxod (other side). This limits you to having it dancing so you see it just from the boxby (side) angle in which case the dance is limited to some simple movement and bends/distortions of the same image, which might not be such an impressive effect as you originally had in mind.

In my head, i kind of see it like a 2d character, so when it bends, it folds. Would that work? I am open to all suggestions, all ideas welcome;)

The front 2 wheels could raise and fall back down to the ground, and there could be some slight twisting/bending movement left and right as this happened, that way the boxby branding remains in one piece albeit slightly animated.

On the other hand if you want something more elaborate, you could go for the dancing fiat uno transformer approach (created in the UK) - although you do lose your original branding to some extent with this kind of transform.

Sandra - Just a bump for ya - You seem to have fallen a little way down the page because *someone* has kindly been digging up tenders from years ago.....:D
Yes it looks like the dredging/trawling has continued overnight!

Of course this might all be academic if the music you really want, the music/lyrics that is probably driving the idea, is unavailable or just too expensive - it could be if it is too popular a song. What is the music? It would be interesting to hear how you get on with this either way, since this issue of using music as part of a campaign has cropped up before on this forum, and I'm sure there will be other people on this forum interested to hear how you got on with Prs and Mcps.

It might be an idea to have a choice of songs, just in case the one you really want is unavailable or too expensive. The song that springs to mind for me is JoBoxers Boxerbeat since when sung Boxerbeat don't 'arf sound like Boxby! It might also be worth having plan B non-commercial music alternatives too.

I'll will gladly keep ukbf informed of the PRS MCPS application and cost. It was an area i have no experience of and was quite hard to find information on.

Re the music ; OK, that is tremendous! I never thought of that one! I'll need to find out the prices etc re this one. The original one that we have applied for is "I like to move it (move it)" which the PRS people assure me will cost hundreds rather than thousands of pounds. It's application is in at present.

Many thanks
Sandra

Yes that's a good one, and at least we know that it is feasible to get animated characters dancing to it, since it has already been done in Madagascar (and other related videos on youtube) albeit at quite a cost in some cases.

The simple animation mentioned before should work for that music, in a very basic form.

Another animation option for that music is not to animate the van dancing, but to animate the process of moving things around, i.e. an animation of the van picking up parcels from various people and buildings and dropping them off at other various people and buildings - that way you are animating static things by keeping them rigid whilst moving, rather than trying to humanise and give character and make flexible a static thing (making a van dance like a person) which can be more tricky to get right.

I thought you would be inundated with offers from the graphic designers on this forum! If you can find one that has some proven animation work in their portfolio then you might be better off going with them if they specialise in this fulltime.

Custom graphic design is not something we get involved with too much except for our existing web clients and for our own company, but if you are struggling to find someone, and since it is a very interesting project with its commercial music angle, we would be interested in helping where possible, so I've sent you a PM.

For your information www.awebapart.com is the website and sitebuilder service created by Abstract Worlds Ltd., the company I formed back in 1998 as an interactive media company initially specialising in designing and developing our own 3D games for PCs and mobile phones, which is why we have a slightly different skill mix and direction compared to a typical custom web supplier or graphic design company.
