Virtual Reality Application Ideas

My company Virtual Living has been producing 3D graphics and animations for about 16 years, recently I have started learning interactive VR development and although the programming and scripting aspects have an incredibly steep learning curve, I feel like it’s worth pursuing some more.

So I’m looking for partners who maybe interested in moving into this realm, or alternatively looking for simple ideas which could be fun and suitable for basic development to create some technical demos.

My 3D experience broadly covers Architecture, Civil Engineering and Aerospace Manufacturing, but equally I’d be interested in perhaps exploring other areas such as health and safety or site/workplace induction applications or indeed anything which has potential.

Has anyone got any innovative ideas worth sharing?

What are you looking for from a partner?

Paul.
Hi Paul, at the moment I'm just experimenting with the technology. So a partner might be an individual or a business, who has an innovative application in mind which would be interesting to develop together.

Perhaps someone with an area of expertise outside of technology, who could lend their knowledge of a particular process which could be applied to or benefit from the use of VR.

Cheers

That still sounds a bit vague - it sounds like you're able to create the VR technically but you're looking for someone with sales/marketing/business development experience to find a potential market for it and manage the sales process?

I'm sorry it's vague, but only because at the moment I am not trying to pigeon hole or stifle any ideas or potential applications.

I can personally think of many possible uses of VR tech, however what would be useful for me at this stage to is to connect with experts in a field who could potentially use or benefit from the VR tech.

A simple example which springs to mind; let's say I can imagine a use for VR training with overhead power cable maintenance. I can personally visualise the aspects in the 3D realm to demonstrate this procedure, (such as tying on, climbing ladders, operating tools etc.) however I do not have the detailed technical knowledge of the step-by-step processes to accurately show safely maintaining an overhead power cable.

So I'm guessing a good partner may come forward from that field and we could discuss a process to make a technical demo to show that cable maintenance procedure working in principle.

I'm not at a monetisation place just yet, I'm still at a stage of technical development. But I believe the monetization will come once I can get some compelling technical demos produced.

I think there are loads of potential applications, just a case of either finding a client to go with the first one at a lower cost, or developing something that can be sold off the shelf.

What about creating 3D visualisations of products that users can interact with on ecommerce websites?

I was thinking this same thing as I was reading through the post and then you said it. Sort of a VR shopping experience which can be anything from clothing or accessories retail, through to /even cars and bikes.
Another one I'm sure would do well would be estate agency, VR house viewings especially in the New Build sector.
