Using multiple tracked phone numbers

Hi guys,

Just a quick one to gauge opinion on using multiple tracked numbers for the same business across varying marketing platforms.

I am thinking of trialling tram/bus advertising in the new year and also some new print/local magazine advertising. My initial thoughts on how to track the performance of these was to use specific tracked phone numbers that I could then report back on monthly to see how many leads were generated.

Obvious pit falls are that someone could see the advert, visit our website and call our normal landline anyway and then we wouldn't have the stat.

I also wondered whether people would pick up these additional numbers and get confused/put off and whether it would cause a trust issue with so many numbers? I run Google ads with call tracking which generates random numbers so I'm not sure if I'm just being over cautious with that one.

We do ask our customers how/where they found us but when investing a good chunk of money I'd like something a little more concrete if possible.

Any thoughts or opinions appreciated!

Hi @lukesvarc

Multiple virtual numbers are a logical, cheap and an easy way to track your campaigns via off-line advertising. Another way is to use specific promo codes that are associated with that campaign also. That gives you a double shot at tracking any business generated.

Just be selective about your numbers and codes otherwise it will blur your results, especially if it gets posted in a money-saving forum.

You could go down the route of different urls but that gets messy because people get it wrong.

Exactly what I was going to say re specific promo codes. This will be able to pin point the return on investment from the campaign. Alex
