I recently posted an announcement about some fundamental changes we’re making to UKBF over the coming months. These are based around the membership, the services and business benefits that UKBF will provide to small and micro businesses owners across the UK – and what you can come to expect from this platform.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been carrying out a purge of old inactive accounts. Sorry about the hiccups with site performance as we ran that through working hours – my bad! We’re now going to be restructuring much of this site over the coming weeks to reflect the services that Business Members can come to expect as part of their membership.
We have free business banking from one of the high street banks, reduced processing fees for card payments, discounted mobile phone contracts, and many other products designed to save business owners more than the cost of their membership.
We also have an online business resource library including shareholder agreements, employment contracts, business plan templates and more resources to support people starting and running their UK business. These resources address many of the business best practices and key challenges faced by business owners in the community, as well as the questions being asked on our forums.
It’s taken a long time to get to this stage since I bought UKBF in March 2021 – having originally sold UKBF to the same firm back in 2007 – but it is all starting to come together at last
As I mentioned before, to allow all of the above to happen, we need to change the terms of membership to reflect these changes. This announcement is notice that these terms come into effect from 1st August 2023.
The changes primarily affect Business Membership but do cover all membership options, including a requirement to have a valid member profile with your business information. Yes, we’re also introducing the ‘blue tick’ for verified businesses, as we aim to build an element of validity and confidence for members to trade and support each other.
To address issues around asking sensitive business questions, we are introducing anonymous threads for Business Members. This is to address concerns raised by focus group members about the public visibility of sensitive business challenges. Please note that admins and moderators will be able to see member details of anonymous posts.
If you’d like to view the updated membership terms before they come into effect, you can view them here.
I do hope that the business benefits being introduced in the coming months will provide valuable support and savings to everyone here. However, if you no longer wish to remain a member of UKBF and would like to cancel your membership, you can request to have your account deleted here.
In the meantime, thank you for being here and being part of this journey as I work with my colleagues in building UKBF, from what started out 20 years ago as a little online forum for small business owners, working from my kitchen table in Luton.
