I recently uninstalled a plugin that I no longer use (PDF viewer for wordpress) and it has created 187 404 error pages wp-content/plugins/pdf-viewer-for-wordpress/web/cmaps/B5pc-H.bcmap

Can anyone advise the best way to correct this? I only had one pdf so not sure why it has 187 pages with the errors.

Thanks in advanced

Was the pdf a 187 pages long? I've been messing with one of my sites recently, optimising it, and have ended up with 7 404, but my ranks have been improving so i don't feel as though a 404 causes any issues unless they were valuable pages, how it will treat 187 of them i don't know. Sounds pretty weird.

Is that information you are seeing in google webmaster tools?

Have you noticed any loss in google ranks since those 187 404s showed up?

No it was only 4 pages! Yes it came up as a message in webmaster tools and then shows 187 different links to 404 pages. I haven't noticed it have any loss in ranking. It's a fairly new site and we have been sat in 4th position for a few months now on page 1. Hoping to go up a few though so trying to optimise it as much as I can. I'm happy to leave them if they won't cause any issues to our ranking.

When you have a load that appear, best thing is to mark all as fixed and then wait a few days. Go back in and see if they all reappear. If it's a one-off plugin error, they probably won't. If they do, they'll appear more gradually, so you can more easily manage them.

I know it sounds wrong to mark as fixed wuithout doing anything, but it won't affect your ranking. It's pretty much the equivalent of a 'turn off your computer and turn it back on again' fix.
