Telemarketing - Pricing for work

I have been in the business of telemarketing for a few years and have recently decided to go self employed. I need any advice that may help, also a price to quote for cleaning a database of 5,000 contacts. Many thanks.

    Hi Sylvia,
The best option for working out a price is to calculate what you wish to earn an hour initially. For this example lets assume you wish to charge your time out at £20 per hour.

The simple option would be to say you charge £20 per hour, but many customers will not be able to relate hour many hours it will take to clean their database, so you need to have a structure to converts database records to time.

In your experience in this field you must know on average how long it takes to call a contact from a database and confirm their details. It is important to realise at this point the principle of "Win some, Lose Some"....

So, lets now assume that it takes 10 minutes per record to call and confirm details (also taking into account that some people will be engaged, and need calling back a second or even third time, you need to bear them in mind).

So, on the principle of £20 per hour and assuming you clean 6 records an hour, you would charge £3.33 per record.

Now I don't know whether £20 an hour is what you want to charge, and I have no idea whether 10 minutes per record is accurate, but taking the principle above you should be able to work out a price to charge. It is also worth reviewing what the competition charge to see whether you are competitive or not.
