Good morning,
I am wondering if anyone would be able to let me know that if someone hosting a refugee from Ukraine in their house renting out a room for £600 per month under the home for Ukraines scheme, paid by the council would the person have to report this income on their self assessment tax return under property income section? We were told that this amount should be tax free.

Thank you

A brief bit of googling suggests that:
- the council are making a "thank you payment" rather than paying rent
- the amounts (initially 350 per month but seemingly subsequently increased to 600 per month) have been legislated to not be taxable

It is also worth noting that, unless you have plenty of spare bedrooms and are renting out others, 600 per month would be within the 7,500 annual limit of the Rent a Room Scheme and so not taxable anyway.
