Suggestion - a weekly debate?

No, no, don't worry, I've finished my thesis now and am not looking for more research data.

As I said on another thread, I'd like to see some more debate or discussion of relevant issues on here. Maybe we could have a topic to discuss every week? Maybe no one gives a d@mn. Is it worth a try? I think it would be quite interesting to see what people think about various aspects of business.

Thanks for the reply. Staffing issues would certainly be a good topic to discuss. My own interest is in business websites so I'd want to talk about things such as:

Advertising - do buyers of ads really have any clue what they're buying?

Usability - countless issues in this area.

I won't list any more until there's feedback about whether or not a weeky/monthly discussion is wanted.

I know all these things can already be raised on the various boards. I was thinking along the lines that if we had a specific discussion topic, we might get more in depth discussion of the issues rather than a more personal question and answer type of exchange.

Hi Kay,

It would be nice to talk about all business topics, not just web based ones. Business is business, from a window cleaner to a top web designer. I sometimes feel a little left out, as all the business topics are all about web things. This site doesn't say that none web based businesses are not welcome, but there only seems a hand full who aren't based on the web. I know many business people and most of them don't have a web site, but could give some good advice on the running of businesses. Please don't exclude us from putting our views across.

They should all have websites !! send them to me

The reason you get alot of web based business discussion here is because it is people like us that are in front of our PC's all day, so quite easy to nip in for a few minutes, whilst your friendly window cleaner probably doesn't carry a laptop up a ladder with him

It would be quite interesting to run a poll to see what % of business users of this forum do online............

It wouldn't really be viable to have a web site for my shop, hopefully my next business will (when I've made my mind up) I do use the web a lot for info and email for this business. There is much to business other than the tech stuff and all the basics of running one is the same.

As for window cleaner, how do you know they don't carry lap tops :lol:

Why not ? just using [email protected] as an e-mail address is good advertising. Have you checked the search engines to see how many people search for "Yorkshire Bakers" (and other key words) ? Even a £50 website design and £50 per year for hosting might get you a few extra clients and it is all tax deductable........

I have seen a couple of other forums where the admin starts a thread based around whatever is happening at that time, whether its a news story or some change in company legislation. This is more general and enables everyone to get involved... thoughts?

Good idea Ozzy, all different businesses can get involved then, could be interesting to see all views.

Mr VSHosting I have 5 email names already, one is Bakers Dozen, I get a free web page and a journal on aol and I am using both, I advertise my business on the web page with email and the shop sale on the other. I don't understand the search engine thing much, I don't really know how to do that. But i'm sure now i've said that i'll get at lest 50 replies :lol: It's tempting to get a real web page, now I know about the Tax
