someone spamming from my email addresses

Hi,

Put this in legal but think it was the wrong section. I keep getting auto-responces for emails sent from my company email, but the thing is, I am not sending them. I have a net that catches any emails sent to my domain. So people are using things like [email protected] to send spam. Is there anything I can do about it?

Many thanks,

I had this problem a while ago. It was caused by a virus on somebody elses computer which obtained email addresses and used them to send emails. It could have been anybody I had emailed at any time. It eventually dried up.
Yes, I had the same thing. Thousands of porn e mail was going out in my e mail address. I did contact my provider and made them aware of it just so they did not pull the plug on my account. It did eventually stop but not till after I got over 12,000 bounced e mails or nasty e mails back.

Hi,

Sounds like they are spoofing your domain in the email Reply To: address field rather than actually using your email system to send spam. Because you are using a catchall, as you have seen, you will get every reply even though the actual email address doesn't exist.

Nothing you can do about it really except stop using the catchall and only accept email to valid/active addresses in your domain.

This type of spoofing will not impact spam filters at the ISP, since your domain isn't actually sending the spam, only receiving replies.

Hope this helps,
Campbell
