I'm new to the forums. So as yet I am not subscribed. So I'm asking this question as I don't want to violate the rules by doing something not permitted.

As a free member, can I put my signature on my posts, with a link to my own details?

That's a no to this. Signatures are reserved for those who have upgraded to Business Membership and doing something to circumvent a paid member benefit is not allowed.
