My business is growing slowly I`m now in need of a part time person to help me. I am a dog walker - pet visitor.

My friend is registered self employed photographer and is in need of extra work through the winter, her business is not/hasn`t been doing very well.

My questions are

Does she have to let HMRC know she is also doing dog walking as well as photography

Can she claim mileage from her home to my house or clients to start work she lives 23 miles away

Claim for her clothes e.g boots, waterproofs

She doesn't have to register separately as self employed. Just complete another self employment page on her tax return for dog walking activities.

She can claim mileage for any business related journeys.

She won't be able to claim for clothing as they are not specialist items unless they have a company logo on them.

You will need to be careful about her being an employee though if she only works for you.
