Sales Slow...

Over the past month our sales seemed to have slumped which is a little strange for us particulary at this time of the year. Has anyone else seen a dip in sales? Has Google carried out yet another update??

    Hi Dan

I'm not sure what you do, who your target audience are, or whether this time of year is traditionally one when sales are slow, but I would suggest you review your marketing plan to see what has worked well and do more of this.

You could also review the communications channels you are using to make sure you are using as many of the channels as it is cost effective for you to do, which your research has shown you engages your existing customers as well as potential customers.

Hi Dan. I would suggest that you contact other on-line businesses selling quirky gifts/items/collectables and talk them into cross-promoting. You can promote each other's website's through advertising for them on your site and they can do the same for you. There are other avenues you can use as well like including an ad for them in your customer emails and in the parcels you send, sharing each others facebook posts, etc. Make it a two-way agreement and everybody wins. It costs nothing and is great for niche businesses struggling to attract visitors.

On the seo front, you should really get a site review through this forum. There are some things that are really holding back your ranking.

The major change google made recently was to include site responsiveness (i.e. does the site play nice when you change the size of the browser) in rankings. Your site (assuming you sell yarn!) is responsive, so that shouldn't have had a negative impact on your ranking.

We have had an increase in customers but i guess thats because weve been going for 6 months now so we are increasing in numbers due to great exposure on social media, sales team, and natural google traffic

Not sure if its Google who are entirely to blame here, IMO the summer holidays are where you should look.

It used to be late July/August when we traditionally went quiet for the summer hols but nowadays you cant take the kids out of school anymore (without risking fines) and so anyone without any kids of school age are going away a bit earlier both to miss the rush and to get much better pricing.
