Recommendation for Builder in North Manchester?

Hi all,

My inlaws want to make some renovations to their house in North Manchester. Knocking down walls, making an arch between rooms, building conservatory, that sort of thing.

I'm not from that area so I don't know any contractors. Can you recommend someone who can come and give a quote this week?

There's loads of 'em, ten-a-penny.

The FMB find a builder is the only one who actually makes some effort to vet the builders, before letting them on the website.

These find-a-builder sites are very unreliable in general - try your local council and see if they are running the buy with confidence scheme - if they are you can get a properly vetted tradesman who has been checked out by trading standards.

I tried the two builder finder websites mentioned and although they look very slick the process is a bit cumbersome and it relies on you knowing exactly what you want. I can't even figure out what category the work falls into.

I must be a bit old-fashioned because I just want someone to come round so I can show him what I want to do and he can give a quote. Sucking teeth and explaining regretfully that his brother-in-law has got the ladder today is all part of the sport...
