Product Headings

As I am now including over 1200 products from 14 different companies should i list the products in toy catagories as they are now or should i list them in manufacturers range catagories ????

What the easiest?? :? :?

Hi Hedgehog

Recent research for my own site suggested listing under event categories rather than product categories (ie. wedding/christening instead of candlesticks/napkin rings).

If your customers are looking for musical toys, then list categories under themes. If your stock is better known by its manufacturer - eg. vtech, elc (I know you don't actually stock these!!!) then list under manufacturer. I would guess that it really depends on how your customer searches - if its possible to find out that sort of information.

Alternatively, you could keep your categories as they are at the moment - as they all seem pretty logical, and also have a drop down menu for manufacturer as a category - and list the manufacturers underneath. EG - like you've got your Accessories - bookends/furniture handles so you could have Manufacturers - vtech/elc (again as an example) then customers can choose their own search style. I appreciate that this may involve alot more data inputting . . . . .

Hope this makes sense . . .

Good advice from Karen there. Set up the site for people who don't know anything about toys at all.

As a new parent would you know what brands to look for or would you generally be shopping for some creative toys for your children?

If you set them up in toy categories you'll probably catch a larger percentage of people that may otherwise have got confused by the manufacturer names

I'd check out somewhere like
mailorderexpress .co.uk

as they have a phenominal toy range and must therefore have worked this problem out before.

If I remember rightly you can search in any way you like including manufacturer and age range and price range.

Having said that they lost my entire Christmas order last Oct and I didn't find out until I phoned three weeks later to find out where it was, so suffice it to say they are not my fav toy retailer any longer.
