Problem with uploading files

Hello,

Another issue, does anyone know or anyone could point out what the problem is:

Tried to FTP our files to our webspace for updates but our ftp software gets disconnected, no actually can't get a connection at all, we tried another ftp software and its the same.

Desperately need help please, can't update website at moment.

Also tried using the upload on our control panel within our host and that also gets disconnected.

hope somebody could help here.

Hi Gary,

Thank you. Yes I did request help from them and I think the problem maybe with our computer/connection.

Hi Ozzy,

Thank you. Yes we do have firewall installed on our computer and we did think that maybe whats causing it so we temporarily uninstalled it but we're still not able to connect, also what we've noticed is that when we view other sites which require us to click on to the sites secure page then it cancels it, e.g. we tried to log in with Paypal...no connection just blank. Another time is when we tried to purchase something over the net and when it came to the secure page ...then connection cancelled again.

Could it be the setting on Internet Explorer? We've been playing aroung with it...but still no joy...is there anything we need to tick within the Internet Explorer for our FTP to work?

Thank you guys.

Thank you Eightpoint, my host actually have asked me to email all my files and they would upload them for me for the meanwhile.

Another thing I've noticed is that I can't access secure pages of any web sites I visit e.g I couldn't log in to Paypal, when I tried to purchase something from a website then clicked to go on to the payment secure page I can't access the page and it goes for the other secure sites I tried to visit so can't buy anything online at present. Can't access online banking or anything like that.

I don't know what to do, can anyone help?

Thank you

How do you connect to the Internet? Are you on your own dialup/broadband connection or on a shared connection (office or home)?

There are several possible source of problems depending on how you are connecting:

1. Hardware firewall in the device that connects your PC(s) to the internet. You need to turn to the supplier's forum for help.
2. Configuration of the hardware router that connects your PC(s) to the internet. (1. and 2. may be the same device.) You need to turn to the supplier's forum for help. (If you are connected using a modem or a BT Frog for ADSL connected directly to your PC this is unlikely to be your problem.)
3. Third party software firewall on your computer (e.g. ZoneAlarm). Worth turning this off for a short time for testing.
4. Windows XP firewall (if you are using Windows XP). Worth turning this off for a short time for testing.
5. Your Internet Service Provider. Who are you using? If you are on dial-up, it is worth trying an alternative ISP.
6. Proxy connection details.
7. Configuration of your network card (if applicable).

You need to tell us a lot more before we can provide help.

If you are on a Windows 2000 or XP PC, bring up a command shell (start|run|cmd) and type ipconfig /all - this should provide details of how your PC is connected to the outside world. Share this information (replace anything private). PM to me if you prefer.

It is odd that you can connect fine when not in secure mode. If the problem were limited to Microsoft Internet Explorer then I would suggest it had become corrupted or was on too high a security setting. However, as your FTP seems to be failing as well, this suggests a more general connectivity problem. It is probably worth trying another browser though, visit http://www.mozilla.org and download the latest Firefox, install and try that.

What FTP program are you using? Passive mode does usually get around a lot of problems. Unless browsing to https is working though it is not an FTP problem.

Sorry to not be more helpful yet.
