Problem transferring my web site

I have been given notice by my current web host that they are giving up web hosting and have a fairly short time to find an alternative host but there seems to be a problem.

I cannot get access to the back end (Plesk) which I understand is needed for a simple transfer but the existing host has said that he can provide me with a database and asked me whether that would be sufficient.

I have approached a couple of likely web hosts and asked them if this is sufficient for them to transfer the site to them and neither have responded so wonder if any of the IT brains here know the answer.

I have a problem with the timing as I need it to be resolved this week if possible

What is your website address / what type of website is it? Do you know what your website is written in e.g. PHP / MySQL or if it is for example Wordpress?

if the host won't give you access to plesk (this seems strange) then they should at bare minimum provide a zip of ALL of your files including emails and backups of all of your databases. That should be enough to transfer it to a new host.

If your site is Wordpress (And you have access to install plugins) and you don't need email then a quicker way can be to use a wordpress plugin to backup your wordpress and restore it to new space like that.

They should give you files and a DB backup. FTP or SSH access should be enough to download files. Plus if you keep your domain DNS zone files with them you might want to transfer that as well.

@Ian J your website is on Wordpress, I just clicked the link in your signature and viewed the page source. Do you have access to the WP admin interface, and if so do you have admin privileges to install Addons?
If you do then any WP host, there are a few on here I know, will be able to use those login details to take a backup of your site for you and import it onto their hosting for you (or you could do that yourself if you know how).

There are numerous Wordpress addons that automate this whole moving host process for you.
