Packages on Site

Hi all,

Really motivated about the new year and was thoughtharvesting* some new ideas for the web site that would encourage enquiries...

One of which is putting packages onto the 10yetis wesite... I figure that Linford Christie did so well when his package was shown that it could translate well onto a web site?

I am thinking that i could put a shopping cart system on the site for various services with the cost, e.g. £35 for a press releases (any size, to any number of media) and maybe a bundled package of £350 for a press release a month for a year? (emphasising the fact that increasing your profile as an SME is vital to keep enquiries and therefore sales coming in?)

Also on the marketing side, was thinking of doing something similar such as £75 for a day of working with you and your business and coming up with practical ways you could increase sales through marketing campaigns? And maybe a £250 package for one day a week marketing help for a month?

Could do a combination of the two as well?
As people here are the SME future...What do people think about this... do you think it would encourage you to get in touch?

*was not sure if Brainstorming is PC anymore!

BTW so people don't waste time - I have the ability to do shopping cart system so no need to plug services - cheers

I'd say the prices are very low compared to what you are likely to pay for standard PR help, 10yetis!

I've worked in publishing and PR and although the prices may attract business from the uninitiated, those that have bought PR previously are still faced with the same question: What's the return on the investment?

Personally, I reckon the days of offering a simple 'production' service for sending out press releases is long gone. Once you've a list of the publications that are relevant to your business, then you can mail merge with address labels. There's not many individuals, let alone companies, that don't have access to a computer that can handle that.

The trick in PR is 'selling' the story into the magazine/paper and knowing enough about the journal to target the right contact with the type of story that will turn them on and publish the announcement. If you can commoditise this, then I think you may have a sustainable business model.

Several of my clients have banned the term for fear of causing offence. Sadly, their preferred alternative is "thought shower" which just does not sound as productive to me.

I like the idea of the packages. I think that it is worth a go.

The idea of packages may work in much the same way as accountants offered fixed fees for agreed services. You would however have to be very specific in what is included/not included in the package to avoid possibility of arguments further down the line.

However

There is currently one more pressing problem......

If your website is your preferred media for generating business enquiries, what is the current traffic volumes on your website??? (i'm guessing that it is rather small) You will need to initially put a lot of effort in raising the profile of your website with search engines. I believe there are a number of posts on the forums regarding techniques for improving the visibility of your site to search engines and a wealth of experience to call on from contributors to the forums. This should be the number one priority followed by the other ideas such as packages offered, some editorial, possibly case studies, links to other sites offering RELEVANT content etc etc

Best of luck in your business planning

If your target is SMEs then clearly priced "products" is the way to get in with them I think.

Doing a little for them with a fixed upfront cost doesn't seem like too much of a gambe to them. Whether it leads to anything more is another matter, but the marketing guy at our BNI is doing exactlt that and is now starting to reap the rewards.

I'd say go for it - but make it clear thses are introductory offers - if that is what they are - I guess you would expect to charge far more for your time really.
