I have looked and looked but can't find anything suitable, so hoping some of you might be able to point me in the right direction.

We are looking for some software (either online or desktop based) that will allow us to do the following:
    1. Record customer details
    2. Record customer orders
    3. Print out sales orders
    4. Update order when it's been completed and posted.

Can anyone please suggest anything that might be suitable?

Hmm...I would have thought that majority of accounting packages like SAGE/Quick Books/Xero would be easily able to handle something like this.

Assuming that you have spent a lot of time exploring these options, would you be interested in exploring the bespoke software route? What you have described above sounds very straightforward and from our experience, should not cost you an arm and a leg.

Its very tempting to say it will only take X day(s) to develop this but....as always the devil is always in the detail...so if it helps, we would be happy to give you rough numbers after we have a quick chat to understand your exact requirements. Please free to PM me if you want to go down this route.

To be honest, if we were to go down the bespoke route, we would write our own web application but this is something we're trying to avoid. We already use Kashflow and they don't seem to support order management, and I've looked at xero and they don't either. Sage would do this but is very over complicated since we've no interest in moving our accounts from Kashflow and Quickbooks Online don't offer this either. I have also tried Quickbooks Desktop (although the 2014 version as that's the only version I've got) and that doesn't do it either.

I've been playing round with a system called OrderHive which appears to do what we need but it's not the best interface.

    Thanks Lola.

I had a brief look at TradeGecko in the early hours of this morning but will have another look. ShipStation won't let me register as it can only handle shipments for the US/Canada.

Not heard of VeraCore but will have a look.

I must admit, I am starting to thing we either need to a) create something bespoke that fits us perfectly, or b) find an accounts package that will also handle sales orders, etc (preferably the latter).

    Hi,

I can back up Lola, OrderWise is suitable for your needs as well as Odoo which has some suitable modules, there's also BrightPearl which is a good platform as well as our system RapidNAV for Supply Chain. This is a simplified version of DynamicsNAV available on a pay monthly subscription which you can access via your internet browser from anywhere. It'll also synchronise with your existing Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)...

It'll allow you to do all the 4 points you've listed and also includes a finance package too.

Send me a DM if you'd like more information.

Thanks. Unfortunately, BrightPearl is far too expensive for our current circumstances, and have set up a trial with Odoo. I've also requested a trial of OrderWise but not heard back from them yet.

I'll take a look at RapidNav as we already use Office365 so would be handy.

You are presently walking a path well trodden by weary business owners looking for the same solutiob ...product 'A' is good at task X, but not at task Y, Product 'B' is good at task Y, but doesn't talk to Product 'A'....neither do task Z. Everyone who touts Kashflow, Xero or Quickbooks etc...clearly has never run a business & therefore has not idea of the functionality required that such accounts-centric packages like those are.

Brightpearl is the only product I know that even advertises itself as a solution to your requirements - but it has mixed reviews & you'll need three kidneysEspecially if you sell across a few channels, clearly it's open season on retailers in that situation...which frankly boils my liquid waste)

Alas, you're likely gonna have to roll your own (which is what I did)

Are you wanting to import customer and order data from another platform?

Linnworks is a popular choice too.

You should look for add-ons to an existing accounting system, you just need something that gives you all the order handling features you need (which when you dive into it are many) plus being able to hook all the standard ledgers in a typical accounting system (sales, nominal and stock).

Sorry, a little late to the party, but I believe CloudB2B have the online order management software that you need. Plus, they also link to all the standard accounting packages, Zero, Sage, Quickbooks etc! Sorry not able to post a link.
