need a bit of help here!

I am receiving about 45 emails per hour saying "mail server error", "unable to send", etc from loads of unknown addresses where the headline of which was 'help the children of Pakistan'

We haven't sent any emails to anyone, but it looks as though someone is piggy backing our address to send out spam. Most of them are just undelivered mail reports, but some are saying 'why are you writing to us' or 'do we know you?' or 'this is spam!', etc

What's happening here, and how can I resolve it?

We run AVG antivirus (which updates itself every day), it is showing no evidence of a virus but I feel as though there is something in our system that is causing this problem.

Any help is very welcome

Hi JB,

I had this problem and aol sent me snotty emails and it wasn't me doing it. I ran all my virus things too and didn't pick anything up. All it took in the end was changing my password :D

Not sure if it's the same thing as yours, but worked for me :D

Rob,

Thanks for that tip.

I think it may have been a virus that we couldn't at first detect. We ran a full systems check overnight and found the same virus on all the computers. Hopefully that will sort it out. :?

The problem is with an old email address that we are moving away from but I will mention the SBF records system to our new host for the future.

I did go to that site you mentioned, and tried to run the SBF setup wizard, but I have to say that I don't understand any of it!! :(

You can describe them by giving "arguments" to the a:, mx:, ip4:, and ptr: mechanisms. To keep the wizard short we left out ptr: but it works the same way.

Brain melt.
