As Terry says, the promotional budget required to optimize your site for a particular product will cost so much that you'll likely have to make tons of affiliate sales just to cover that cost.
My advice as someone who's dabbled in affiliate selling would be to find a high price item with a good affiliate percentage return and specialize solely in that - only a handful of similar products. If you do that, each review will strengthen your SEO in your niche and work together. if your products are in different niches they will not have a cumulative effect. Keep plugging away reviewing similar products in your niche and eventually you will start to rank.
