Hi All,

Can anyone help? We have a small dilemma - my better half & I are getting married in August and being that she's Finnish we have a fair few relatives coming across from Finland. Now, originally they were flying over to Scotland for a weeks holiday staying in Edinburgh to enjoy the Festival before our big day, the small problem we have is that Ryanair has just cancelled one of their return routes which has really messed things up for them, to the verge they couldn't come any more - which isn't really an option. Believe me when i say that's the tip of the iceberg with Ryanair on this.... I'll refrain from going on!

Anyway - we've spend hours sorting things & they are now flying into Stanstead and I've elected to get a minibus and pick them up/drive them upto Edinburgh (we were driving up around then anyway), so we ideally need about a 12 seater that's a one way hire from Southampton, Hampshire.

We've looked at keeping the minibus for the week but that's not cost-effective, hence the one-way hire option for 1-2 days, but finding one is proving difficult... I'm contemplating just buying a 15-year old rusting heap from autotrader for like £1000 just to get us up and back, then selling it again! (but again, not ideal and it wouldn't probably make the round-trip either...:D)

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm,

I'm assuming you've looked around to see if minibus companies can do this for a lower price?

Failing that, I'd say try one of the big companies for one way hire, as you have thought of your self. Instead of asking for a one way rental to Edinburgh, see if you can get a one way rental to another city near there. That way you can hire the vehicle for around 1-2 days, return it relatively close to where you will be and it wouldnt cost too much for you to get back to Edinburgh or wherever you need to go after returning the vehicle (assuming its back up in Scotland).

Just an idea.

Long way in a minibus. Should be able to get cheap flights or trains with this amount of notice to get them to Edinburgh.

I use minibuses a lot and it is very hard to get one way hires with them. Try a hire with driver they may be interested, they will be looking at over £200 just in fuel for the return trip plus their time.

Other option is MegaBus very cheap but not sure if they use Stanstead
