Magento Dedicated Server Spec Recommendation

Hi,

We are currently on a VPS however the site is getting sluggish and MySQL is cutting out every now and then, so to future-proof I would like to move to a dedicated server.

We have around 1.2M page impressions a month and around 50 concurrent users at a time.

Could anyone recommend a Dedicated server spec that can handle this and room for expansion?

I wouldn't recommend a spec but I would recommend one of the guys on this forum, dx3webs as he showed me several Magento sites running very fast on his servers.

Assuming you are on a VPS / Cloud Server system where you can remotely self upgrade your hardware - have you tried increasing RAM/CPU etc. That's what attracted us to Rackspace inasmuch we can remotely upgrade (or downgrade) server resources whenever we want and we pay for server resources by the hour.

I'm a hardware person so I couldn't imagine putting an important site on a machine I can't control. Performance issues Are more likely to be linked to the site design and content than be anything curable by updating the hardware.

That site would run nicely on what is now a pretty base spec 16-core 8gb ram server with a couple of decent drives in raid.

Database size and no. of database queries are also important. Other than that how many visitors you get.

If you are presently managing things on VPS I will say a dedicated server should be perfect for you right now with atleast 4 to 8 GB RAM , Quad core processor. Also I will suggest you use Nginx webserver & Varnish that will help to speedup your site.
