Looking for Freelance Designers?

O

Hello all,

I am part of a graphic design and print business and am looking for freelance graphic designers who are familiar and experienced with commercial printing. This is solely a means of finding a few good graphic designers for outsourcing purposes in the event that we get really busy, which has been quite the case as of late.

You must be experienced in Adobe Creative Suite, Quark and commercial printing, know how to handle large-scale projects and have enough capacity to take on any projects we are likely to outsource.

If you're interested please post your info and feel free to ask any questions. I would also appreciate it if you let me know of your contact details (e-mail, telephone, full name etc.) and your rates - please PM me with these details.

Any and all submissions are gratefully received and I look for to talking to some of you very shortly. Have a very merry Christmas!

Kind Regards,
Thomas Hampson

I recognise your position entirely.

People like prontoprint, vistaprint and printing.com outsource design work to us but our commitment really depends on how much work we have at the time on enquiring. We only charge the trade rate so that helps the printing firms to add a margin on. Our results always come on top of their so called in-house designers (which are totally rubbish most of the time).

All the best...

Kay

Hi Kay

If what you say is true, calling your customers "rubbish" is an interesting business strategy!

Hi Peter,

I was referring to [rubbish] "graphic designers" hired by some printing.com franchisees, pronto/vista. We have personally experienced it. The branches we have supported hires school leavers and college boys to design. They have a turnaround time of about an hour to complete 3 identities.

Maybe that's generalising and a bit unfair. I guess it's all a question of budget - if a client only wants to pay for an hour's artwork, then three logo variations in an hour seems like value for money to me. Of course, if clients have the budget to invest a little bit more, then more time can be spent researching, developing and refining an identity. It's all down to the individual client's needs - not everyone has £2,500 to spend on a logo.

PS. Are Vista hiring designers in the UK now? It says on their website that their designers are based in Jamaica.

I guess you are right there Peter. Designs to suit budget! A regional director at printing.com works closely with our design director, graphics division. A very honest and trust worthy guy.

Had a bad experience with a London branch.

I am sure that you are not the same - no hard feelings.

All the best for your business in 2008!

Kay

ps. Vista is still on a downward slope in my opinion ever since I dealt with them many moons ago. Not sure what they are up to nowadays.
