I recently changed accountant as my previous local service, whilst perfectly ok, were getting very expensive and as a sole trader trying to manage costs I decided to change. I found a company online who were reasonably priced and switched however I have had a fair amount of grief in the last year with them as my work was delegated to a trainee who, whilst very helpful, kept making errors that inevitably caused me grief and I have lost faith in them.

I am a sole trader, VAT registered retailing and installing gas fires/fireplaces, gas fire servicing and sweeping chimneys and am looking for accounting and bookkeeping including self assessment and VAT returns. I am conversant with uploading receipts to Quickbooks but I have no bookkeeping skills beyond that.

Looking for a personal service that is reasonably priced, with knowledge and experience of working with small service businesses in the building/home improvement sector, with a good understanding on what can be claimed/offset who can hopefully keep my tax bills sensible!

If you offer this service, are available and willing to supply references, please get in touch.

I was in a similar predicament not long ago, my account relegated from a fairly switched on trainee who then became qualified. The new guy was just about clueless. But my fee kept going up until it was bordering £100 a month, just for filing!?
Then i learned most charge in this region.

Good luck

Hi there, I'm not sure if you've already found someone, but I work with a small number of clients and offer the personalised service you're looking for. I'm happy to provide references if needed. Feel free to message me here or reach out via email at [email protected]
Hello Mario,
I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner, have had other stuff to concentrate on.
To be honest I'm not sure what to do at present. I'm sure I could have a service that better fits my needs but I would need someone to give me good reason to actually go through the process of changing to them at present as I have other things to think about regarding my business and don't have the time to apply to this right now.
Happy to keep in touch and feel free if you have any info to send but I'd need to be given a reason to find the time at present.
Thanks for your contact,
Hugh.

I would consider going back to getting someone local. You probably do not want to go back to the same one you had, but ask around and take your time. Maybe you need a bookkeeper to keep things running smoothly, week-to-week, and then use an accountant at the end of the tax year.
