Hey,

I'm looking into a possible gap in the chocolate market (yes, there are still some!) but to be prepared for moving in i'd like to know if there are any licenses involved. I've had a go at trying to understand the gov.uk website but I've ended up thoroughly confused.

I will be importing pre-packaged hand-made chocolate into Scotland and England from a non-eu country (in Asia). Sales will primarily be made online though my e-commerce site and through other retailers. I won't have a kitchen or a shop and I will not be involved in any of the manufacturing (handled by an asian company). Do I need any licenses/ have to comply with any regulations?

For instance, is calorific information required on the packaging? Are there any licenses I need?

Many thanks for any help in advance!

.gov.uk website has gone downhill with its recent change and you do seem to struggle to find any relevant information, to be honest the best bet is to call them, they would have the right people that can tell you exactly what you need to do

I think selling anything customers can consume isn't the same as selling other goods but I may be wrong, give them a call I am sure they can help

Whenever a customer comes to us with idea's such as these we always recommend just picking up the phone and speaking to the local council as you will get a better understanding within minutes of being on the phone.

Good luck with your venture and I hope it work's out, if you need any help with regards to business design, the e-commerce site itself or anything further please do just ask.

Cheers
