Can anybody explain to me the rules about selling direct to the public from places like trading estates and self storage units?

I plan to use open yard storage with containers (which i think is classified as B8) to sell furniture.

There is a company called 'The Pine Shop' (or something) and others, who seem to get away with it by using a sign that says 'open to trade and public'...is this some kind of legal loophole?

Where can i research this?

Have you tried ringing Business Link, If you are new to business or only have a few staff, these will help. They have all different professionals working for them and it's free advice. If they don't know the answer to your question, they will tell you who to get in touch with. Also try your local council planning dept'.

I've since spoken to a commercial lettings agent and they gave a reasonable explaination of the rules...but before getting into anything i think i'll take your advice and phone both business link and the planning office...Thanks for your help.
