Hi I am an (aspiring) entrepeneur; I am also an electronic musician.

I used to have another account but forgot the login; I made a thread about my project to some snarky and downright rude and unhelpful comments from a few ppl, a few encouraged me but not in the vein I wanted to progress.

Here is the project in it's current form; https://soundcloud.com/loudandclearproject

It's essentially a digital record label, for the time being, with massive ideas and potential or growth; I have been the sole creator and doer behind this project rom evrything to promo upload admin and even the artwork (which is ok but idk kinda garish)

I haven't move out of 1st gear with it tbh, I have a few major players within the scene to contact; they've replied and told me their emails and then I foresee only growth

The quality of music submissions just keeps getting better; therefore the revenue should theoretically increase; all profits go back into the business it's essentially a social enteprise record label; and to my understanding that's a USP; insofar as there are digi labels on sc but they give out either free downloads or keep 100% of the revenue - beyond digi goes physical; so hard copy vinyl, that is a realistic aim and that could further increase sales. the revenue was coming in in dribs ad drabs with little promo; I wanted to support two charities I relate to Mind and Shelter but as someone pointed out and indeed it is a valid point;) they get plenty of donations anyway - the mai gist of the project is therepeutic expression through the medium of electronic music (which is a huge market in itself; just look at Soundcloud alone then factor in Spotify and Youtube; it's a bottomless pit).

I'd like to be able to open a centre (the setup and format will be decided on later; where people can get refered and maybe also a drtop in to address their various issues , have a jam, meet people - etc etc etc. I think, no, I know, from working in a similar enviroment as a volunteer - that people's spirits get lifted by listening to music alone, but actually hands on interaction would be hugely beneficial.

So that's the Loud and Clear Project aspect; all outgoings are kept to a bare minimum but I feel it's time to expand now - so a website promoting the project with a list of services offered would be a start; (so, point me in the right direction of hosting etc).

I'd need to rent a premise, large-ish , possibly soundproof in parts.

Advertising isn't too much of a problem in the day and age of social media and having an exisiting network of people anyway;

So, that's LAC.

Next something more personal -

I'm struggling to narrow down the project's main causes it would help; high up would be a mental health charity of some sort - I myself am bipolar; it makes me compulsive, impulsive, creative, productive, driven - good skillset to have for an apsiring entrepeneur right? HOWEVER - It can, if unchecked and unmanaged, be potentially catastrophic; which is where I find myself in hospital atm; I am nearing full strength - and it is long winded but this explains further

BUT

The crux is; about reform; when I was becoming unwell I was wrongfully arrested twice, had my property violated, and was generally treated, despite being placid and calm, like a piece of meat by the police - and the A and E department did absolutely nothing - not even a single pill of pain relief and to this day I am dosed up on them quite heavily (now I am actually getting the right help)

The neglligence and lack of care and empathy from public servants has just made me more motivated to pursue wholesale reform and fight justice and inequality (no matter what and to what length).

Which is why the Loud and Clear Project needs ramped up a notch.

Thanks for reading

Hi I am an (aspiring) entrepreneur.
Thanks for reading

Jamie...

A few observations and suggestions based on what I've seen of your posts here/elsewhere.
  • As a 'normal, commercial, for profit' undertaking, what you're trying to do is ok.
  • Orienting it as a socially-oriented enterprise, is laudable.
Either... may work, might not, could be big/small/somewhere in between, wild success or crash'n'burn.
  • There's little to be gained by discussion of the actual/potential merits or otherwise of the concept... and a more appropriate focus is 'how do you make it work'? (This should be of practical help to you, and also reduce 'that'll never work' criticism which almost invariably appears.)
Throughout your threads here, you've had some good constructive advice...
  • It's worth re-reading those threads and, through cut-and-paste, adding the good stuff to a file to which you can easily refer.
  • It's probably also worthwhile doing similar with some of the less-constructive too - if don't over-focus, it can help you be clearer.
Specific things you've noted...

'I have little to no business experience and expertise, but what I do have is an idea, with the determination to push further.'
  • Good.
  • By working on that idea, expertise & experience can be relatively easily gained.
  • That you're perhaps 'naive and overly optimistic' shouldn't unduly bother you. At this stage of your life, it might be more of a problem if you weren't.
'Despite some problems in life.'
  • That's ok.
  • Position them accordingly... within an appropriately structured-and-detailed 'me/personal stuff' page to which you can link.

'I am an intelligent, articulate young guy.'
  • Perhaps... though it often doesn't come over as such, and at times can be a 'jumble of incoherency'.
  • You'll help yourself by modifying how you communicate... rather than 'blurt', take the time, and make the effort, to progressively refine rough thoughts into a logical structure which is reasonably easily readable and understandable.
    • Intro
    • Main point -> clarification
    • Main point -> clarification
    • Main point -> clarification
    • Recap/outro
'I'm struggling to narrow the project's main causes'.
  • Currently, that's not a priority issue. Don't consider it to be one, or be delayed by it.
  • When the project is operating sustainably and profitably, you can refine accordingly.

'Point me in the right direction of hosting etc.'
  • Rather than asking, you'll do better by searching... all the info you could ever need is there to be found, easily and at no cost.
  • 'Hosting'? Like anything else... Googling-it will provide additional/better/more objective info than responses to a forum question (because those responses are often based on 'what somebody else said, rather than any self-effort to find-and-assess). (And, from a mental health aspect, 'immersive research' can help personal stability.)
  • So yeah, read before asking... and then, if appropriate, have specific queries - for example:
    I've been researching potential web-hosts, of which option #1 and option #2 seem to meet my requirements (good service, inexpensive, located in Iceland).
    But I can't decide whether the 'free ice cream when buying an annual package' from #1 is something genuinely useful, or whether the offer from #2 of a 'free back-rub when you're tired & stressed' would help my business better. I'm interested in hearing from those who've had experience of either, and if there's a potentially useful/better alternative of which I may be unaware.

'I am nearing full-strength.'
  • Maybe. But life's often a long walk down a slippery road in the dark... with lots of surprises, among which is our own relative inability to self-assess.

And remember...
  • 'Enterprise (at its best) is an emotional, vital, innovative, joyful, creative, entrepreneurial endeavor that maximizes individuals' growth and elicits maximum concerted human potential in the wholehearted service of others.' [Not my words.]
This isn't a one-time-then-no-more glib response.
I'm easy to find, so if you think I can be of further help, don't be shy.
