Hi, I was wondering if I'm able to sell imported cigars from America on the internet in the UK?

Also what do I have to do in order to import cigars from America legally?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am no specialist, so don't take my work for it, but I don't see why you couldn't. As long as you abide by UK cigarette selling laws (age restrictions) you should be fine. In relation to importing, as long as you pay import taxes like normal imports, everything should be fine. Hopefully someone on here will reply with more specific and definite information!

Hope this helps
Ross :)

Quite basic

The commodity code for importing is 2402100000.(is the commodity code)

Importing from outside the EU is subject to a third country duty of 26.00 %. (so you pay 26% duty on what you import)

Goods are subject to VAT standard rate.(add 20% VAT)

I already looked into this myself my friend and unfortunately soon discovered that the taxes, duty and shipping costs mean you end up needing to sell the cigars for pretty much what your local Supermarket does. Sure you can boast better cigars and a better range, but there are already a number of firms doing this that likely will be selling for less than you because of the bulk buying that do, but even their profits will be tight.

It's a a real shame, because the actual cost of the cigars in the USA is really cheap compared to what they cost over here.

What about blunt wraps? Basically cigar wraps, papers made from tobacco. Are they classed the same as cigars?

Yes. If it contains tobacco you will get with the same costs to get it over here. Apparently you can get away with bringing a lot back yourself for personal use in your suitcase, but again your airfare would wipe out your profit margins.
