Image copyright

Morning all.
I am in the process of setting up an internet business and have a question:

Is is ok to use images of products from wholesalers websites(on my own site) if you are buying the items from them? Or is this frowned upon?

This is all new to me and I would welcome some sound advice so I don't get myself into hot water!

Thanks

Yup, best to be on the safe side and always ask permission.

Years ago when my site linked to the likes of Sony, Canon, Nikon, Kodak etc, I asked hundreds of big name firms if I could use their logo. They all said yes (apart from Adobe - which was thier loss, not mine)...

Hi Sara,

I would say the best place to get images from is the manufacturers of the products you are selling. As a reseller of their products you will get all the marketing material that is available including images.

If you just right click and take images from your disties you will only get the resoluton of pics that they have saved, if you can get from the manufacturer you are more likely to get hi-res and more recent images.

i have no idea what you are selling but the bigger company they are the more likely thye are to have a marketing portal you can sign up to that will give you access to all product information and images etc..

Completely agree. If you use someone else's images and you don't have permission to do that then you are in breach of copyright and the owner of the image can in the first instance ask you to remove the image and then may also be able to take legal action.

Courts may grant a range of remedies, such as injunctions (to stop you making use of the material), damages for infringement, or orders to deliver up infringing goods.

Better to be safe, methinks :)
