Ignored content not working

On posts made by a member I'm ignoring, I see a banner saying "You are ignoring content by this member", followed by the contents of the post itself.

Yes - that is how this software works. You can't see the posts unless you wish to, but you do know they have posted which makes sense as other people would be replying to questions you didn't know were asked. It's the current way to deal with people you don't want to read, but knowing they're out there is sensible.

What could have happened is that at some point, you clicked on the view it button, when it appears, but your browser may have remembered your choice and is entering it for you?

No - with the old software, I would just see the banner that says "You are ignoring posts by this member.

With the new one, I see the banner AND the contents of the post. I've checked several posts by the same member, and the behaviour is the same for all their posts.

Which is really quite annoying.

I tried ignoring somebody and they vanish - I just see other people. If I search for them I get a blank screen and the small see ignored material click top right - I definitely don't see their material so it sounds like your browser - it's working fine for me. I smiled at Ozzy's comment because the random member I ignored I then took ages to find as he vanished so completely.

Can you try ignoring someone else briefly as a test (not a mod or admin) and see what happens there as a test?

This is my view. I tend to learn a lot more from people I don’t agree with than those I do. Sometimes reaffirming my opinion and occasionally changing it. ? On here though even if I wanted to I don’t have the privilege to be able to ignore anyone.
Anyway, when you going to start a real business? ?

Hmm, curious. That works, and posts I've ignored from other members seems to work. Only seems to be posts by this one member (and they're definitely on my ignore list). I shall investigate further.

In that case it is as @paulears says, you have clicked to view their posts at some point.

This is one thing I cannot say because I don't have the option to ignore as site admin/owner so never seen used the option. I'd say yes try re-ignoring

I've just tried ignoring one of the contributors to this topic. Their posts vanished. unignoring them put them back exactly as before, if this helps.

Unfortunately, un-ignoring then re-ignoring doesn't fix the problem.

I guess it's clearing cookies next.

Hi, @japancool did you manage to get this sorted? I've tried to recreate this effect on a standard account and haven't had any luck. If you're still seeing this problem I'll pass this over to the teams on our side to see if there are any gremlins lurking in the system.

The opposite for me I block anyone who constantly spoils my enjoyment.

That's mostly people who are constantly obnoxious or moany, never because I disagree with their views. I love opposing views.

It took me a while to block the idiot you mention because they could accidentally be hilarious

Not sure it is by design, but I can see why the platform would show the threads started in the same logic as Paul mentioned earlier that you can see the ignored member has made a post. You just don't see it unless you click to display the content.

@Ozzy at my end it seems so.

I tested with a random member, put him on ignore and his unread thread is gone. I unignored him and his unread thread is back.
