How to buy domain names cheaply?

I am looking for the best place (cheapest) to by .co.uk domain names that do not require you to host with them, if I understand correctly the cheaper one's will not allow you to transfer the domain for the 1st 60 days to another hosting company.

Any pointers?

Any good fOr e-commerce and have you got an example of your site so I can take a look
thanks

This is a site a have on vidahost:

www.dotsandspots.co.uk

Built the site myself, have had no problems with the hosting. Our trade pages - hosted on the same site - are built using Zen Cart: again no problems, a single click install.

Had a minor panic a month or so ago when something went wrong (my fault!) - emailed the vidahost support who got back to me within 20 mins and solved the problem.

There are other good hosts out there, but I can't fault this lot (its the third hosting company I've used & definitely the best of the 3)

I originally registered all our domains at 123-reg, until they failed to renew a .co.uk domain name that I paid for.... even after I compained. That said, in general they were OK - just don't expect much in the way of support. At the end of the day, they're selling .co.uk domains virtually at cost, so I guess you shouldn't expect too much.

To point your domain name at your hosting, you'll need to change the nameservers in your 123-reg account. It's pretty simple, and your host will no doubt have instructions.

Your choice of domain registraar (e.g. 123reg) won't have any effect on seo (as far as I know!). Your choice of domain ending e.g. co.uk could - if you're UK based - go for .co.uk. Your choice of host could as well, go for UK based servers.

Forgot to mention about 123-reg - their prices for .co.uk domains are great - but there are far better deals out there if you're after a .com etc.

Thanks fir your reply, I'm after a .co.uk and think I'll go for 123 for the name. But for the hosting I'm not sure, needs to support seo and look professional, be able to be made by me too so a simple builder is needed, t
vidahost have been recommended and I'll take a look at them
thanks

The best hosts for seo use is php / linux based (so much easier to redirects, etc using htaccess).

I would recommend vidahost (lots of good things said about them) or csnewmedia.

Your host will hurt your seo but it's better to have one that has all the tools you can use e.g. one click install (for packages) and offer htaccess.

I can recommend UKWSD for both registration and hosting. They are a small company in the north of England who have provided us with consistent great service and support for the last four years or more. I always recommend them to my clients. I have no affiliation to them and nothing to gain from recommending them.

I do in fact have affiliate links to 1&1 but I would not recommend them to my worst enemy but that's another story.
