I think I heard someone say the reason why phone number spoofing cant be fixed in the Uk is because we have a mixture of digital and analogue infrastrucutre and it's not one harmonised system for checks and balances.
this is why nusance callers will now use random phone number as a caller ID and get through your mobile phones spam filter. My phone number has been used as the caller ID a few times - I received phone calls twice by strangers asking why I called them. I explained to them I never called them - chances are some scammer is using random caller IDs to get through people's smartphone nuisance call blocker.
The "convenience" for a big company spoofing their caller ID to their main switchboard phone number is not a good enough reason to allow scammers, spammers and robo callers to have carte blanche to call all of us.
