How difficult is it to start a gas and electricity broker?

You can certainly start on our own. It is however a very competitive field and I even dare to say it's saturated too. I receive calls from energy consultants almost in daily basis.

Plus, when Labour wins the general election and re-nationalises the utility companies, you won't have a business, lucrative or otherwise.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any idea as how to get started? I'm struggling to find a way in if that makes sense. Do I contact the electricity/gas companies themselves and say I want to become a broker?

Without an understanding of the energy markets, how are you going to be able to advise companies on the right choice of supplier / tariff?

It would be better to work in the industry first to understand what you are offering.
