simple pick the cheapest, most set ups are done by one company, many others on the webb do the registering through that one company.

they just use a different trading name and make a few bob

by the way that company also has a link to this site.

so pick the cheepest all the service is the same, the real expensive ones take a lot longer heavens knows why.

Hi Alan and welcome to the forums.

I thinks there are currently three online formations companies that post on here so you have plenty of choice and I think that all three are cheaper than Jordans new online service so you should be able to have a decent choice.
I do you one of the services and have found it quick, simple and very cost effective.

All the best

Hi Alan,

Welcome to the forum. I am one of the formation agents that post on the forum. Just a quick point. You mention that you are considering registering a company name. It is important to understand that in addition to registering the name, you are forming a limited company. This is a legal entity that is obliged to adhere to the relevant legislation that exists. Whilst there are many formation agents that may happily sell you anything we believe that it is important that people appreciate what they are starting when they register a company.

If you simply want to protect the name, you can register it and keep the company dormant. However, if it is your intention to operate a limited company please feel free to contact me if you wish.

An additional point to consider is that whilst registering your name will prevent other companies from registering the same name it is not a cast iron way of stopping people from trading with that name. The only real way to protect your company name is with a trade mark.

Please take a look around our website by clicking on the links below. If you would like to discuss anything please give me a call, I promise no sales pitch.

Mike.

Before you start you need to make sure as far as possible that the name is legally free for use. Only a proper trade mark search will tell you this - just because Companies House will acccept the name won't mean that it can't infringe someone else's trade mark. We have had several companies forced to look at changing their name because of this. If you need help, let me know - we have a free guide and factsheets we can email.
