Grants & Loans......where to start?

Hi, I'm just in the process of starting a new company in the building trades/construction industry. There seem to be 1000's of options, with regards to start up grants and loans. Does anybody know a good place to start......perhaps somewhere that has a synergy with these industries? The amount needed should not total more than £4,000.......if that helps?

Banks - need business plan and would be looking for some collatoral

Family and friends is probably most simple for a relatively small amount like this- 10 people £400 each - they know you and your abilities such much more likely to invest

Local authority business services - shoud tell you what's available locally
