I was wondering what tools there are out there for this?

I've used Ranktracker which I found good, but its $300 to be able to do anything with it which is a pain.

Are there any, trustworthy, free or cheap ones out there?

I really just want to check where my site, www.maxholloway.co.uk appears for "Hire a Jazz Pianist London" but personalisation of results seems mandatory now, I remember I used to be able to turn it off!

No longer.

Appreciate any help!

I use Google Webmaster tools to maintain and analyse my websites. Google are always introducing new tools, sometimes marked as "Beta". So I would suggest you have a good scout around the Webmaster Tools section as there are hidden gems, and it's FREE!

Ahh, interesting. However will that show me data from US UK, both or a mixture?

I would also suggest asking someone in your area to search that in Google that hasn't been on your website before and see where they come up. Especially if you are marketing to people around your area it is a good test. If you aren't marketing your business to people in your area then the above suggestions are good (And you should use them either way you are marketing your business)

It's cheap, about a tenner a month for the lowest entry, but SEOGadget have a good keyword tool, it does require you to have Google Analytics though. I think I read that a new version without the need for Analytics is in the pipeline for the future..

It will check your ranking for any of the terms that you give it and also for any phrases that it finds in your Analytics. It then also shows the GKT search volumes for each term. Quite neat.

Free Trials of these programs are good..

Traffic Travis
Market Samurai

Or you can check yourself, Go advanced settings, 1000 results per page, ctrl+F and input your url.. then when you find your website hover over cached and that number will be your rank ;)

Rank tracker, also have the professional version for $99 which from my understanding does most the stuff the more expensive one does.

I also use traffic travis as mentioned above at times, it's free and will avoid settings made by google.

I also had this problem tracking my own page's ranking - I got v.excited when I thought it was on Page 1, then I realised Google had "customised" my search.
If you type your keywords into Google and search as usual, then scroll down to the bottom of the page, under the GooooooooooooGLE bit, there's an option to view customizations, if you click on this you can choose to view your results without these customizations
