Hello

Do any of you with online shops use Googlecheckout as a payment gateway?

I have not used it and one of my clients is asking about using this and wondered how it fared compared to say Paypal? How long do they take to transfer money into your bank account etc?

many thanks
Joanne

I've used checkout for accepting payments - not for actually selling stuff. It used to be free provided you spent so much on adwords but isn't anymore.

Not used it that much but it is fine and your money is paid from the UK so hits your bank very quick.
Technically it is much better than paypal but not so widely recognised and used.

Google checkout used to be great ... it's not as good now but very quick and handy for invoicing people direct!

I've not used it within an online store for a while, however its quite easy to set up and use.

The transfers normally take about 7 days to get into your bank - they used to only be labout 3 days... but I normally find it takes about a week now (sometimes 10 days at the latest)

People trust google which makes people use it, normally the people that don't want to use paypal, but IMO its not got the customer base that paypal has and costs the same, so it's cheaper to get them to use something like sagepay/streamline.

I offer Google Checkout as a payment method, i used to take as many payments through Google as i did through Paypal but now i cant remember the last time someone payed me through Google Checkout.

I did consider removing it but it doesnt cost me anything to offer it so why not give the customer the option anyway?

I would not use Google Checkout. Bear in mind that you do not get any phone support - even if you have £100,000 waiting in an account that you can't access for some reason. You will have to communicated with Google CS via email only.

PayPal you can get phone support. There business is entirely e-commerce payments so they make sure they are good at it. If you spend your time Googling more than 2s you will find countless PayPalSucks type stories - but that is probably more because they are used so widely.

We are launching a new site and the site builder are pushing me to build in google checkout, i have never used it so dont know if i am missing a trick ???

Currently use Protx & Paypal, thinking Google might be an addition, ideas

It certainly can't do you any harm to offer it as an option. Can't see it putting anybody off and can only help to convert sales i would imagine.
