Are businesses afraid of free advertising?

I run a advertising directory online.

Its pretty good but in the three months since ive launched ive only had two adverts placed on the site.

Is this because businesses dont care about free advertising?

They think it makes them look cheap?

I guess the reason for this is that there are so many out there, if we registered in all the sites available, I would not have any time for running my business.

Plus for a site to work, you need a USP. If you sont offer something that is not unique, then why would anyone bother.

I'd suggest trying to get key businesses registered (be that key businesses from a certain area, or in a certain industry, depending on what your focus is) and you may find that others follow them.

As no118 said there is so many out there what is going to make me advertise on yours in comparison to a different directory?

What have you done to advertise yourself? How would I have known about you in order to register?

Hnn... sounds like you have a directory about in which you will provide free of cost advertisement to other companies and agencies.
