    Hi Natalie,
It is a lot of hard work to get market a forum, and a lot of money. I spent more than £1,500 last month on marketing this forum, as marketing a forum is no different from marketing any business and/or website.
You just have to work at it.

    I advertise anywhere really.

I promote these forums on my company newsletter which goes to about 7,500-8,000 people.
I pay other companies to promote it on their newsletters and bulletins. The last one was to BusinessGO, which all in all actually cost me £8,000 plus VAT - but that is a years worth of bits.
I also do deals with other companies where I promote them in certains ways and they promote the forums.

I do also take part in other forums and add a link to this forum in my signature, but to be honest that is very little purely because I don't have the time.

You are investing some serious money in this forum. How do you forsee making that much back? From your credit reports?

How do you qualify the return on your ads? Do you have a way of tracking the traffic they create?

    Thanks

Lol Ozzy! (maybe he meant the other forum?) Good forums will spread by word of mouth more than advertising ('tis my belief). You might also want to try getting some adverts in on-subject magazines and e-zines. You can buy advertisments in many e-zines nowadays.

I've always put more emphasis on reciprocal linking and advertisments on related websites, as opposed to buying search engine advertising space, but bear in mind a reciprocal linking strategy won't pay off until months later...
