I need to open a Euro account, but it has to be at a German bank. Does anyone have any experience of doing this? Can I do it from the UK, or will I need to go there? How long does it take?
I would have thought that it may be possible to open an account via a London branch of a German bank.
The biggest obstacle to opening an account is providing proof of identity/address and good standing - but you could probably get this provided by your UK bank to the satisfaction of a German Bank, without going there.
We have been looking at a Euro account to be based in mainland Europe, from the UK, and were amazed to find HSBC couldn't help us - the World's bank, but not Europe apparently.
All I can really suggest is contacting the London branch of the major German banks - these are their German contact details - they may have UK sites
