Can't access my email today either. On and off all the time. Didn't know who my host was until I called the company that designed my wesbite who setup my email. After a quick google it wasn't long before I realised what sort of company I'm dealing with. If you paid a yearly fee for your email service would your email still be locked with them for a year or can you transfer (don't care about losing the rest of the yearly fee I paid as It's costing me a lot in business right now) anytime?

Surely compensation can be claimed for the size of the problem?

I'm sure most hosting companies have this sort of thing well covered.

Quite embarassing when a client asks you to email quotes and information and you are back to the stone age. Calling isn't an option when lots of info/text is required and when the client specifically requests something in writing after discussing something by phone.

17. Liability

17.1 Fasthosts shall not be liable for any loss or damage of whatsoever nature suffered by You arising out of or in connection with any breach of this Agreement by You or any act, misrepresentation, error or omission made by You or on Your behalf.
17.2 Fasthosts will not be liable for any indirect loss, consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill howsoever arising suffered by You or for any wasted management time or failure to make anticipated savings or liability You incur to any third party arising in any way in connection with this Agreement or otherwise whether or not such loss has been discussed by the parties pre-contract or for any account for profit, costs or expenses arising from such damage or loss.
17.3 No matter how many claims are made and whatever the basis of such claims, Fasthosts' maximum aggregate liability to You under or in connection with this Agreement in respect of any direct loss (or any other loss to the extent that such loss is not excluded by other provisions in this Agreement) whether such claim arises in contract or in tort shall not exceed a sum equal to twice the fees paid by You for the Services in relation to which Your claim arises during the 12 month period prior to such claim.

arghhhhh! i can't log into webmail again! 'error connecting to server'.

all the status pages say everything is working ok again now, anyone else? :|

Im having the same problem. This has been going on for two weeks now. Most of my clients contact me via emails and a lot of my business starts from emails. If I cant recieve them, I lose business. It's ridiculus.

Im no tech savvy, well to a degree but I can get an idea of what's going on and im sure a problem like this, with the tech knowledge can be fixed. Do they know what theyre doing? are they fixing this? or are they sat around, drinking coffee and discussing where to begin, with another coffee I presume. How long would a problem like this take to be fixed, they must think that they will be losing business like this. If it were my compan, Id have a team on it right away, spending all hours trying to fix this problem and if all failed, invest in new machines.

& gone again!

sent them a 'tweet' (i hate it but it does seem to have it's uses!) & they are now investigating as had so many complaints again.

I've done exactly the same. Just waiting to hear from them. But to be honest if there servers are down, then there down. What justice can it do sending them our email details.

Im leaving fasthosts next month, I will prepae for them. I suggest everyone do the same. Maybe a dint in the customer list "so to speak" will give them a reason to look over there performance.

Please do leave them and find a firm via this forum to go with.

Fasthost are my number one hate company- if this site was in the USA and covered by the freedom of speech amendment, I would go as far as saying that they are evil thieving scum- sadly this site isn't so i shan't say the preceding...

They sucked my blood for a whole year even though I tried to cancel the contact after about an hour.

I would never recommend them to anyone- unless I really, really, really hate them.

i guess this is linked to the recent downtime, but i've just tried to open an email showing in my 'sent' folder from last Saturday - there's nothing there, it's just an error message! no wonder i haven't had a reply to it...

i've raised it as a problem. so much for no missing mail eh?

I don't think i'm getting any emails now.

This is a major problem. I'm going to have to switch hosts and have one lined up but i've been expecting a couple of emails this afternoon and now its not allowing anything else in to the inbox.

Great, thank you. Just what i needed.

we're just shifting 4 servers from fasthosts to rackspace. oh my god - the difference is amazing, you really do get what you pay for. Just trying to move the last server at the moment and shock horror the online storage is down....zzzzZZZZ. Hence why i've got time to browse on here!

Wow, a simple question and it gets 62 replies all negative about them

Last few days have been a nightmare with mails down etc, yesterday I just gave up and used my live account!

Will be moving away from them end of the month, enough is a enough me thinks

FastHosts said:
Over recent days a number of our customers had problems accessing their Standard or Advanced Mailbox using POP/IMAP or Webmail services for which we offer our sincere apologies. Whilst customers on POP or IMAP were able to send email and inbound emails were delivered to mailboxes, a number of our customers experienced connection problems when trying to retrieve and download mail during peak business hours. Customers who only access via Webmail experienced the issue more acutely. Customers using hosted Exchange were not impacted at any time.

The underlying problem originated with our email storage platform which hit performance issues despite no increase in email usage. This impacted the number of concurrent customer connections it would support. Therefore during peak hours customers would experience intermittent access rather than the usual seamless service that we strive to offer.

All services were restored as quickly as possible by migrating some customers to additional infrastructure, however we fully recognise that for many of our customers, we haven't delivered the level of service that is expected from us nor that we expect to deliver. This problem was compounded when customers queued to get a response from our call centres due to the increase in demand associated with the service issues. Throughout this time, our team were working with our infrastructure suppliers, with all possible resources, to restore full service to all of our customers impacted as quickly as possible.
We would like to reassure you that absolutely no emails were lost as a result of the service interruptions, as all emails were queued (where necessary) and delivered to customers mailboxes. The issue was one of a lack of access to the received mail not a loss of mail.

To resolve the problems we have distributed the email load even more widely across our storage clusters than should normally be required. We are also adding in further storage capability as an additional safeguard this weekend to further expand the resources available to our customers and provide the highly available service we always aim to deliver. Work will continue over the coming days to ensure that from a hardware, configuration and processes point of view Fasthosts delivers the resilience and availability of the email platform to a high standard.

On behalf of Fasthosts, I would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this incident. Rest assured we do not take this for granted and we will deliver a more robust solution going forward having worked through this experience. If you have any comments for our senior team on this issue, please visit our blog for more information on how to send your feedback.

Again, I apologise unreservedly for the inconvenience caused to those customers affected, and fully recognise the importance of email in your daily professional and personal lives.

Out of interest have Fasthosts offered anyone SLA compensation of any form?

Presuming you have an SLA of course.

???

The company that that "cons" people into year long contracts by making people click on what looks like a terms and conditions box but is in fact a "I don't want the right to cancel my contract and in return you will give me a small discount on my first 3 months of substandard service and if I do try to withhold my money you will charge me a punitive £20 each time you re-present the bill, oh and I have read through you terms and conditions, ignored them and found the hidden terms referring to the special offers which are not really all that legal"...
