Everyone aware of Google Fred?

Any knowledge on the new Google update? I know they haven't confirmed it - but they never do. The main thing is they haven't denied it yet so it's probably true.

I believe it's supposed to affect sites with spammy links etc.. Like an ultra penguin.

Anyone know of anything more with the update?

Avoid shortcuts

Please apologize my lack of knowledge, but what are shortcuts?!

__

Anyway, as far as I've heard, Google switched its updating system from rolling out a few major updates (PENGUIN, PANDA) to rolling out 2-3 a day. And that's why we got this "Fred" thing. Someone from Google said: "All updates should be named Fred" as a metaphor for the unimportance of singular updates. So you don't have to leave an annotation in your analytics timeline anymore. Just do your (right) thing and don't worry.

Shortcuts was just my reference to people trying to game the system or go against Google's Webmaster recommendations for best practices (and those things they specifically warn against like link schemes, manipulating anchor text of backlinks, etc).

This would also include things like buying paid links from blog networks and similar.

Great content on sites with niche relevance with a branded backlink is one great way to go. The other is of course great content on your own site, optimised and interlinked appropriately.
