This is a business forum and it gets too many trade union related questions
While the section is busy it is irrelevant and it does not look good for new members that run businesses .it would turn me away
I am someone who can run a business but has never had a proper job and would not get offered one :confused:. I'm not the only one on here
I would suggest make it a section for employers only or put it in the full members section

In what way would it put people off? You say it would turn you away but manage to cope so am sure others can.

imagine you know nothing about this site and you stumble upon it and your in business and the first thing you see is the trade union section :eek::eek:

Thats all I am saying .
We should represent each other as people in business not as former employees or as employees outside of our businesses

Going into the next 18 months there is going to be all sorts of stuff going on with people getting the boot and dodgy companies doing dodgy things
Would it really be beneficial if the site was over whelmed with upset people

Me too, never had a job, never been on a job interview and never had a CV.

But I have employed people in the past and I've had a few subbies doing bits for me on a regular basis for some years now, as well as subbing out specific pieces of work when needed.

I read the employment and trade union type threads with interest, from the perspective of maybe employing people again one day.

I suppose that I am more fortunate than most. I do not employ anyone in the UK! - That is purely a Business Decision!

The other half of union related questions is how the companies respond to them so i dont get @JEREMY HAWKE point. the forum is not just for small one man businesses some members no doubt run very large companies and have HR problems where the information may be of use to them

One good thing about @byre is that he brings knowledge from Germany and Europe, so anything that widens the appeal of the forum must be good even if its not relevant to some people

If you are new to the site you'll not notice the Trade Union section as there is not a section with that name.

And if the employment section puts you off due to the questions and answers tehn maybe business in not for you.

I am sometimes amused when a person comes on to a forum of business owners and says 'I am a bit idle, and don't like receiving instructions, and I want to stitch my boss up', and is a big indignant when we form a circle around them and prod them with sticks.

I would miss that. I cannot lie about that.

I agree with the OP's point as this has always felt like a forum for businesses rather than employees.

However, I have picked-up alot over the years from comments/questions from employees and agree with @Paul Norman that it can sometimes be quite amusing. It is also quite satisfying to see the gift of common sense (eg its over so move on) that people on this forum are willing to give.

I've always thought that it was about doing business - and employees, while important tend to get advice from citizens advice, or their unions etc. Often we get posters who in just a few sentences reveal they're looking for ways to get even with awkward (in their eyes) bosses, and bang on about "has my boss the right to XYZ, or read my business mails, or criticise me for getting drunk and needing a day off". I've always taken the opinion that in most cases, we're firmly on the side of the employer, seeing their point of view to every two sided argument. Sometimes we do say that the boss is totally wrong, or even doing things illegally, but in the main, we do see the bosses side of things. I'm not sure we need a trade union section - as they rarely think like employers, even the good ones. Equally we'd be giving advice to work against any dispute process? Conflict of interests will be apparent. It's a bit like a forum for prosecutors and defenders. You couldn't share tactics.

I would prefer to side on with the side that is right - just because it's a business forum does not mean you should side with the employer.

Agreed, but historically we have very few problem employer topics and quite a few problem employee ones don't we? No problem with somebody asking as the employee if something is correct - because sadly sometimes it's just not, and we sort these, but quite often, the actual staff feel aggrieved for no valid reason. Having a trade union section would to me, be a bad move.

There already a trade union section it is just not labeled as that :)
