So, don't get me wrong. Marketing campaigns (paid for) can be a great way to generate business but is not always the most cost effective method, especially for new business start-ups. Last week I had a client that had been squeezed of their marketing budget for the first year by a business that blindly created campaigns which unfortunately didn't draw any interest.

I had a quick look at their website and realised that no on-page SEO, no backlinks had been done and nothing was accessible to anyone with different abilities. The company hadn't even placed one correct keyword.

It's no wonder they didn't rank organically. Anyway, to the punch.. I'm also a fairly new business and I work in web design and SEO optimisation.

If they have a main website, then yes, they would be best to get it SEO friendly, but if they just have a landing page, then that would work for a PPC campaign.

All businesses get hounded by all kinds of cold callers, here is just a few: Digital Marketing Agencies, Magazines, Exhibitions, Networking Events, Email Marketing, Insurance, PAT Testing, Energy Suppliers, Telecom Suppliers and then you drill down to industry specific, like vinly, Inks, Printers... the list is endless.

Yes, it is annoying and a complete waste of your time, however be respectful, these are all people trying to make a living, politely decline and ask to be removed from their list.

There is definitely a surge in cold calls and emails.

When it comes to offering marketing my immediate turn-off is anything that fixates on one 'Must have' medium or service.
