Do I need public liability insurance

My friend is starting a party plan business and would like to know if she needs public liability insurance.

If so where can she get it from cheaply?

If she is visiting other people's premises or if public are likely to visit her, then she does.

Best to approach a broker. We use Hiscox and I think they only provide cover for professional services

She will be going into other peoples homes and running activities with groups of 10-20 people as well as doing it in halls etc.

Then there is no question that she needs public liability insurance in the event she injures someone on their premises, she becomes injured, or if she damages anything on the premises

It should not be expensive for her but as advised, speak with an insurance broker.

IF you are throwing party then you ar responsible for the health and safety of those attending.

I think she does need insurance. A lot of accidents happen in the home.

Well, if she does not have cover then she may not be able to even make a claim for herself if she injures herself on someone's property (without assuming that a householder has 'public liability insurance, which is unlikely'

I don't think this would be covered in the owner's household insurance, if it is, it may well be subject to strict conditions.

If she injures someone else during the course of her business on someone else's premises and if found liable she would have to pay all the legal fees and compensation which can go to ten's of thousands.

All for the sake of £50/year or so, best to be covered.
