Considering starting an Online business.

Hi, I'd just like to say thankyou for any replies and help given.

I'm a student and I've been doing some research on starting an online ecommerce sales website. I have found some uk wholesalers in the UK which supply products that I am interested in selling. They do drop shipping also so I won't have to keep stock in my house I can just forward customers addresses and orders onto them. I'm not a novice with computers and websites, I know my way around but I'm not a pro. Unlike I am a complete novice with the business side of things. I have found some website/ecommerce website builders that have many features available, so far everything on that front seems appealing but I'd like to be told if I'm missing anything or there is something major that I need ect. I know that advertising is a bit part in any business but I am able to do that myself. Currently all I want is something that can make me a bit of extra money, if all goes well then I would expand the company but for now it's a meer idea so I don't want to plan too much. If anyone can help me I'd like help with things I should look out for, things I need, things you'd recommend your own personal experience, any problems with what I've said ect. I apologise if this doesn't make sense. I'd like to say thanks for any and all help given.

Regards

Austen.

Hi Austen,

I think the reason that you are not getting any replies is because you have not made it clear what you need help with...

Your plan is quite clear, many people do that to make some extra money on top of their regular jobs, so my advice would be as follows:
1. Make sure that there is a market for the products that you would be selling
2. Your prices are competitive (check competition prices on the net)
3. Choose a reliable dropshipper
4. Choose a professional ecommerce platform. I would recommend Prestashop
5. Advertise your online shop
6. Make sure that you have a start-up capital for initial expenses (domain name, hosting, advertising, a contingency for any refunds or returns to customers, etc.)

Hope this helps :)

Cheers

Tim

Just basic stuff:

1. Use CRM!
2. Always, always make detailed financial reports.
3. If you were about to start an online store consider many shipping and payment methods (and of course how much they cost you).
4. Advertise trough adwords for a very specific, niche phrases (expensive), hire SEO agency (research needed) for more common ones.
5. Consider using accounting services.
6. Use Excel a lot for pretty much everything you do.

Good Luck! :)
