We are a device manufacturer in the healthcare sector and are looking for some advice regarding marketing strategies....
We are interested in taking on Commision Only sales reps whereby the incentive would be around £1500 per device that they sell. Ofcourse support will be provided alongside training etc. Any ideas where we can source healthcare and beauty sales reps? We are based in London and Nottingham !

Don't do it, is my advice.

If you have that much margin in a product, you're better off giving a basic of £15k and a comission of £150 per product. That way, at a target of 1 per month which works out roughly the same over the cost of the year.

This kind of pay scheme is more in line with other sales positions in cars, estate agency etc and you'll get a better breed of person. Perhaps even offer a higher commission per product, or say minimum target is 1 per month, if you sell 3 per month you get a £300 bonus...

Work out the figures and see if it works for you....but these people will be representing your company to your clients - they will be giving a first impression that you can't take back....better for you to have a closer watch on the situation.

As pointed out above you need to recruit carefully, but I have had plenty of commission only guys work for myself, many of which had been on company payrolls before. Never had any huge problems myself, but I recruit people I know or who are vouched for by someone I trust.

Employees can be just as troublesome, end of the day it comes down to how well they are controlled and monitored.
