How are people currently backing up their data? on site? offsite?

Copy held on my fully encrypted laptop, encrypted copy on Google Drive which is syncronised in real time and an hourly encrypted backup to Rackspace with roll back facility up to 1 month.

May be a bit overkill, but spent 20 years working in IT support so know how essential decent backups are.

Best way is to keep daily backup on site, and weekly to be maintained offsite. If its really busy site with lots of changes everyday, remote daily backup is recommended.

How *much are you paying? You say on site, but what if you have a fire, that's all your data gone?

I'm not paying anything. I do the back ups.

I do recommend the cloud (livedrive) but I now use a 4TB NAS with RAID 1. NAS systems can be expensive but well worth every penny as you have total control and of course if it's cloud ready you can have the benefits of getting your data any time. All my data is fully sync's with the NAS as soon as changes are made.

What happens if there is a fire onsite?

Currently have a Time Machine running in the office to do local backups of everything every hour - allows for fast local recovery if needed.

Google Drive is used for all our documents (we use Google Apps inc Google Docs).

GMail is used for email (which is then backed-up by Backupify)

Finally BackBlaze provides a complete online backup of every computer.
