Hello, I'm new to this forum so firstly can I say hello to everyone.

I'd be grateful if someone could answer a query for me please. We created a new limited company and are changing the name of our business account to that name; an agency that pays us has said that they need new bank account details as they can't accept the old ones (along with our notice of change of company name). I found this strange as the bank are happy to change the name on the account yet now the agency are saying they can't pay is into it??!

Does anyone have any thoughts? Would be really grateful if you could let me know. I only ask as this agency is constantly paying late and having "problems" and they rang last-minute to tell us this-is this just another excuse for late payment?

Thank you.

    Hi,
To be clear, and reading between the lines, I think you have said you used to be a sole trader (or partnership or another Limited company). You have then formed a new Limited company and you want to change the name on your company back account from your old Sole Trader (or partnership or previous Limited company) to your new Limited company.

If the above is correct, then your agency is correct. The money in that bank account belongs to the previous business and the bank should not change the name on it.
If I have understood you correctly you should close down the existing business, and the new Limited company is a new entity which could "buy" the assets (and money in the bank) from the previous business.

So you know, much of that process we can help with as my business.

If I have misunderstood what you are referring to and you have a Limited company and you have filed a Change of Name with Companies House then your agency is wrong and the bank are right :). Supply your agency with a copy of the Change of Name Certificate and all should be fine.
