Call Recording.

do you actually need consent, or will a message prior to the conversation be sufficient - "calls may be monitored or recorded for training purposes" - that way the caller has the choice to hang up if they feel they dont want to be recorded. The company I used to work for recorded ALL calls, incoming, outgoing and internal, the phone system did it automatically but as far as I know there were no messages on those ones. That said, the company was well dodgy!

I'm sure I read somewhere, that it's not illegal to record a telephone conversation without the other parties knowledge or consent. Provided that these recordings are not published, and are only used for evidence in the event of a contractual dispute.

I'm sure you would have to be registered under the 'Data Protection Act' though.

I'd heard a slightly different slant on that.

I thought it was ok to record a telephone conversation as long as you were actually taking part in it and not acting in a third party perspective.
I googled this topic once and found a paper saying that the legalities of it were based upon the regulations of the company who's line you use for the recording and not so much towards to privacy of the other individual. I did also find plenty of conflicting advice so ... not sure really.
